Dr Hemalatha is a Visiting Consultant Physician at Fernandez with over three decades of clinical experience in internal medicine, critical care, and obstetric medicine. She completed her MBBS from the Government Medical College, Trivandrum, and joined the Indian Railway Medical Services (IRMS) through the UPSC in 1990 and subsequently completed her post-graduation in Internal Medicine (DNB) at Railway Hospital, Perambur, in affiliation with Madras Medical College.
Dr Hemalatha has a long-standing interest in critical care and women’s health, with expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies, gestational diabetes, and complex medical conditions during the antenatal and postpartum periods. She worked extensively in the Indian Railways in Mumbai, Solapur, and Chennai, managing ICUs and cardiac care units at the Railway Hospital in Perambur. She spent two years with the NHS as Staff Registrar at Newham General Hospital, working in cardiology, haemato-oncology, and anticoagulation services. Known for her compassionate, patient-centered approach, Dr Hemaltha holds empathetic communication skills and ability to connect across cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She is a Life Member of the Association of Physicians of India (API), the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), and the Indian Geriatric Society.
